This episode wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. While I love episodes where the day repeats, I knew watching Dean die was going to kill me. It wasn't so bad which sounds so wrong when I type it out. The first death and the last death were hard. I caught myself doing the nervous grin when they happened. All the others, however, were flipping hysterical. Oh, gods, the head bob and gargling had me hooting every time. It was fantastic.
A listing of the deaths they showed (Sam mentioned over 100 repeats):
Shot at Mystery Spot (just noticed that in both bad ones he was shot)
Hit by car
Crushed by falling desk (I almost snorted my macademia nut cookie when it happened)
Choked on breakfast sausage (totally called that one)
Slips in shower
Bad tacos
Electrocution
Hit by Sam's axe
Mauled by a golden retriever (I can't believe I forgot that one)
Mugged and shot
I wasn't all that surprised that it was the trickster after the bit with him was shown in the recap. When Sam woke up on Wednesday, my first thought was he never promised that Dean wouldn't still die even though it was a new day. Having him die like that as the last one, was heartbreaking especially when Sam kept thinking he would wake up.
Sam got so hard without Dean. You could tell that his whole focus was finding the trickster and getting Dean back; the hunting was just to keep him busy. He was like this silent dead thing. Before he had always been the serious one and Dean was the one to keep things light finding the humor in everything. Without that counter balance, there is only Sam's focus. The scene where he was stitching himself up was an excellent illustration of that. Once I got past the Roadhouse flashback, that is. On a side note, damn that boy is ripped. I am absolutely fascinated by his physique in a 'wow look at the play of light and shadow over the muscle definition' kind of way and not a 'cover him in pudding and lick it off slowly' kind of way.
At the end, I looked and said, "What? Wait. They're going to leave it that way? Sam has all the memories but did he also retain all the physical marks from his time without Dean? Why was the trickster doing it? Was it only to get Sam alone or only to get Dean into hell? Was it a combination of the two? Why did he keep it up? He isn't the type to continue with things past the point of not being funny anymore. He had to have had a reason. He doesn't seem high enough to be the master behind it all. Who is? Who wants Dean in hell and Sam all alone?
Synopsis:In a pause in the hunt for Bella, the guys check out a Mystery Spot attraction. Once there, Dean is killed but the moment it happens the day starts repeating. Sam then goes through hundreds of repeats watching Dean die without being able to stop it. Finally, he finds who is behind the repeat and stops it but with a result he did not intend. Sam then goes on a hunt to find the guy and restore things to the way they were.
Next week, a 2 hour episode where the Winchester boys are caught by Henrickson and have to face down a pack of demons while in custody. I am actually considering going into work early and leaving early to be able to watch it all instead of just taping it because I don't get home until 9 pm. It's going to make me nuts.
