New Amsterdam began airing on March 4, 2008, on the Fox Network.  True to Fox's standards for interesting fantasy/science fiction shows, it was canceled after 8 episodes.  Current New York Homicide Detective John Amsterdam has difficulty keeping partners and a shadowy past.  This all may be because he was born 400 years earlier in Amsterdam before moving to and "dying" in the New World.  He has lived through the centuries trying to find his one true love, the one who will make him immortal.  On the day he meets his latest partner, Eva, while chasing s suspect into the subway, he has a heart attack and "dies."  Convinced the woman who tended to him in the subway could be his "one," he searches for her while solving crimes with Eva, and helping his 65 year old son, Omar.
